CBI chief said Interpol issued 100 Red Notices for India last year.

CBI Director Praveen Sood stated that Interpol issued 100 Red Notices for India in 2023, the highest in a year.

At the 10th Interpol Liaison Officers Conference by the CBI, CBI Chief Praveen Sood mentioned that 29 fugitives were returned to India in 2023, with 19 more in 2024 due to cooperation with Interpol and global law enforcement.

Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan noted that the CBI’s Global Operation Centre handles 200 to 300 requests daily. This year’s ILO Conference, on ‘Strengthening International Law Enforcement Partnerships,’ was hosted by the CBI ahead of the UN International Day of Police Cooperation.

Mohan emphasized the crucial need for international police cooperation to tackle technology-driven crimes that span borders. He noted that the rise of transnational crime requires real-time collaboration among police forces as investigations increasingly need to be global.

Preventing and prosecuting crimes increasingly depend on digital and foreign evidence. Mohan emphasized that modern crimes, like cyber financial crimes and online radicalization, transcend borders, highlighting the need for international police collaboration.
