India and Iran Celebrate 75 Years of Diplomatic Relations

In a significant diplomatic gesture, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran called on the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 8, 2025. This visit, as highlighted by President Murmu, marks a special milestone—75 years of diplomatic ties between India and Iran.

From the very beginning, the President warmly welcomed Dr. Abbas Araghchi, the Iranian Foreign Minister. She emphasised that the India-Iran relationship is deeply rooted in shared history and culture. Whether it is in music, language, food, or literature, both nations reflect mutual influence and admiration.

Moreover, she underscored that these ties are not recent. In fact, they span thousands of years, showcasing enduring friendships. Significantly, she noted that ongoing high-level exchanges have strengthened this bond.

Trade, Energy and Chabahar Port in Focus

Importantly, the President praised Iran’s continued partnership in vital areas such as trade, energy, and regional security. Notably, both countries are cooperating on the development of Chabahar Port, which is strategically crucial for regional trade. Additionally, President Murmu appreciated Iran’s heartfelt message following the Pahalgam terrorist attacks, recognising their compassion and solidarity.
